The Government of India is organising VAIBHAV SUMMIT, a Global Summit of NRI Researchers, called Vaishvik Bhartiya Vaigyanik (Vaibhav) Summit (Virtual) from 2-31 October 2020. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India inaugurated the summit on Friday, 2nd October 2020, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in the virtual presence of the registered academia and researchers from across the world. Formal deliberations are taking place from 3rd October to 25th October 2020 through the webinar/panel discussions. Each deliberation is comprised of up to 10 Indian overseas and up to 10 Indian academician or scientists.

Prof Vijaya Gupta participated in the panel discussion as a panellist and delivered a talk titled as “The Role of Economics in Environment and Sustainable Development", on the 3rd October 2020, in the "Environment and Sustainable Development" a vertical of Environmental Science, in VAIBHAV SUMMIT, a Global Summit of NRI Researchers Vaishvik Bhartiya Vaigyanik (Vaibhav) Summit (Virtual) organised by the Government of India. The Environmental Science Vertical is jointly organised by IITM, IITD, CSIR-NEERI, CSIR-NGRI.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering ( NITIE ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC), an organisation established by EuroChambers, the Association of European Chambers of commerce and industry in India.

EBTC is hosting Europe India collaborations for technology frameworks and best practices as well as innovations to suit local needs in India through various projects and programs.

The MOU between NITIE and EBTC focuses on creating a body of knowledge and a multi-stakeholder ecosystem supporting collaborations leading to collaborative projects through the Europe India Transport Cluster.

The objective is to support ongoing development of transport and logistic systems in India focusing on co-creation of sustainable urban transport and mobility models and viable & resilient supply chains.

Prof Manoj Kumar Tiwari Director NITIE, briefly introduced about the institute strength and its strong industry connect that can contribute to this collaboration. Mr Atul Kulkarni, Member NITIE BOARD of Governors, shared the vision and the activities planned to be taken under the MOU. Mr Kulkarni has taken an active role in forging this alliance.

Subsequently Director, NITIE, introduced NITIE team comprising of Prof Vivekanand Khanapuri, Dean ( SRIC), Prof Vivek Khanzode, and Mr Basavraj Swamy, Registrar NITIE.

A proposal is being submitted to Ministry of commerce to set up a centre of excellence at NITIE. Going forward NITIE plans to explore the opportunities for setting up “Living Labs” and contribute towards the smart cities development and corresponding Eco-System.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai organised a webinar on Technology-enabled holistic education on 30th September 2020 to discuss ways to integrate technology in implementing National Education Policy-2020. This webinar emphasised the role of technology in improving education in rural settings. Five hundred thirty-two participants registered for the programme. The deliberations were made with evolving technology to improve academic settings in rural India.

Director, NITIE Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari delivered the welcome speech emphasising on NITIE coining an initiative regarding the new education policy implementation through technology to improve education in villages. While emphasising on different facets of technological developments Padma Bhushan Prof. Sanjay Govind Dhande, Chairman BoG suggested the need of developing integrated curriculum such that along with scientific temperament, critical life skills are also learnt by all students. He reiterated the need to develop content on artificial intelligence, machine learning, system design, and as well as communication, empathy, moral, and to create Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Dr Madhav Sathe, social entrepreneur and Dr Upendra Kulkarni Head, Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi presented the challenges related with ground realities, and how their teams have successfully designed programmes at taluka level and successfully integrated technological interventions to promote education in schools of rural India. Prof. Arvind Patil shared how NITIE could contribute to advancing technology-enabled holistic education through the Centre of Distance Learning. Prof. Vivekananda Khanapuri and Prof. Upasna A Agarwal invited suggestions and questions from registered participants. Participants brought several perspectives to the forum for discussion that includes the need for developing apps for student and teacher assessments, making videos on vocational and life skills, having post-graduate students work on live problems of rural education, among others. NITIE Mumbai is delighted to share that Prof. K. Sudhir, Professor, Yale University & Editor-in-Chief, Marketing Science (A FT 50 and A* Journal) gave an online Talk at NITIE on September 24, 2020

NITIE Director Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari gave opening remark and shared the NITIE’s research initiatives & welcomed him for the talk.

Prof. K. Sudhir gave his talk on the topic “Attribute Sentiment Scoring using Text Reviews with Deep Learning: Accounting for Attribute Silence”. It was attended by more than two hundred scholars from NITIE and other institutes in India and abroad. The session ended with Q & A from the participants.

15th September is celebrated as the Engineer’s Day in India as a tribute to one of the first and finest engineers India has produced, Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. He was an eminent scholar, a builder, a statesman, an educationist, and the most celebrated engineer in India, with his engineering prowess being portraited in distributing of water resources and construction of dams across India in such an efficient manner that his designs have prevented massive flooding. He had designed and patented a system of automatic weir water floodgates that were first installed in 1903 at Khadakvasla Reservoir near Pune. He gained prominent status when he designed a flood protection system for Hyderabad. He was instrumental in developing a system to protect the Visakhapatnam port from sea erosion.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) is always at the forefront of contributing to the development of the nation. This year Engineer’s Day has been celebrated in a unique way at NITIE by IISE-NITIE Chapter.

Prof. Balkrishna Narkhede welcomed all the Keynote Speakers, Director NITIE, faculty, Registrar, students, alumni, and staff of NITIE. Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director NITIE delivered an Opening Remark. He explained the significance of Engineer’s Day and the legendary contribution of Sir M. Visveswaraya. He also highlighted the rationale behind the establishment of the IISE-NITIE Chapter.

Prof. Bopaya Bidanda, President of Institute of Industrial & System Engineers (IISE) and Ernest Roth Professor & Department Chair of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering has inaugurated the IISE-NITIE Chapter and delivered an inaugural address on the occasion of Engineer’s Day. He explained the role of the industrial engineering discipline in national development. He is at the forefront in handling many projects on industrial engineering applications to businesses in a pandemic situation.

Prof. Darek Ceglarek from the University of Warwick UK has delivered a Keynote address. He enlightened the audience on Smart Manufacturing Systems and Digital Life-Cycle Management in the era of industry 4.0. He highlighted the significance of industry 4.0 in Product Life-Cycle Management such as Product Design & Development, Process Planning, Manufacturing, Quality Management, Supply Chain Management, etc. His talk was very innovative, research-oriented, inspiring for industrial engineers, and is well appreciated by the audience.

Mr. Harsha Venkatesh, Director Product Line Management from Enphase Energy Bengaluru has shared his entrepreneurial journey on this occasion. He discussed five commandments for success. These are Value Creation, finding mentors, life-long learning, two careers in parallel, running own race. His talk was very interesting and appreciated by the audience.

A total of 650 students, faculty, alumni, industry practitioners and IISE Members have attended this program. A faculty team (comprising of Prof. Milind Akarte, Prof Vivekanand Khanapuri, Prof Vivek Khanzode, Prof Balkrishna Narkhede and Prof Rakesh Raut); and the student team (Ganesh Tated, Gaurav Singh Tomar and Tarak Kuthiala) worked under the guidance of Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari Director-NITIE to make this event successful. Many faculty members and supporting staff also helped to organize this event.

NITIE Mumbai successfully completed its Online MDP on Application of AI/ML in Operations & Supply Chain Management. The inaugural session was taught by Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari (Director, NITIE) on Supply Chain Analytics.

Spread over 3 weekends (Aug 29- Sep 13), the faculty (Prof. Sushmita Narayana, Prof. Debabrata Das and Prof. Priyanka Verma) provided hands-on training to a diverse group of professionals in supply chain, operations & consulting roles in reputed firms such as Dabur, Mondelez, Kellogg India, Accenture, KPMG, Capgemini and Toyota Motors, along with academicians and a doctor too!

Participants were trained in concepts & use of platforms (Python & MS Excel) to implement supervised, unsupervised & reinforcement learning algorithms in operations & SCM problems. They also submitted weekly assignments for review in MS Teams Classroom.

An International Ergonomics Webinar on the theme “Emerging Issues and Trends in Ergonomics and Human Factors research: The New Normal” was organized by NITIE, Mumbai in Collaboration with the BRICSplus Network on Human Factors and Ergonomics (BRICSplus HFE Network) on 12th September 2020. There were renowned professors in the area of Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering from 7 different countries namely, India, US, Brazil, China, South Africa, Philippines and Portugal, who delivered talks on various emerging issues in the area of ergonomics, like role of Artificial Intelligence on Human Factors application in Industry, Human factor application during a pandemic etc. in the Webinar. The Chief Guest and Keynote speaker for the Webinar was Prof. VK Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur on the topic - Ergonomic Performance Evaluation in large Enterprises.

More than 400 delegates consisting of faculty members, research scholars, industry participants, professionals, designers and PG students from more than 20 different countries participated in this one-day Webinar.

The Webinar was inaugurated by the Director NITIE, Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari. Prof. V.B Khanapuri - Dean SRIC NITIE, Prof. Padmanav Acharrya - Dean Academic NITIE along with other faculty members of NITIE present during the inaugural session.

There was Panel discussion at the end of the Webinar in which all the distinguished speakers along with Director NITIE addressed on various questions raised by the delegates. The Webinar ended with Valediction session addressed by Prof. V.B Khanapuri and followed by vote of thanks.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering organised a webinar on "National Education Policy: Contribution of Indian Values to Education" on 11/09/2020 at 11.30 a.m.. The objective of this webinar was to highlight contribution of Indian Value System in our Education System in the context of NEP 2020.

Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra & Goa graced the webinar as the Chief Guest. Other esteemed dignitaries present were: Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, MP & Chairman Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education; Dr Aniruddha Deshpande, Former Principal BMCC Pune; Prof Sanjay G. Dhande, Chairman NITIE Board of Governors & Shri Atul Kulkarni, Member NITIE Board of Governors.

All the dignitaries expressed how the positive changes in the education system will drive us towards growth and development.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai and Asian Institute of Technology, (AIT) Bangkok are pleased to announce the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation between both Institutions for exchange of students, faculty and researchers, implementation of joint projects and to promote interest in research, teaching, training and consultancy activities of the respective institutions.

Prof. Manoj. K. Tiwari, Director NITIE Mumbai and Dr. Eden Y. Woon, President AIT Bangkok signed the MoU and look forward to starting new initiatives this year.
